Description: 

The Caura River with its 723 km of length is the third river of Venezuela and the second tributary of the Orinoco River. It's source is a sping located in the south central area of  Bolivar State, specifically at the Jaua Plateau. Its dark waters flow to meet the Orinoco at the village of Maripa. It is a unique opportunity to delve into the lush Amazon rainforest, experience its mysticism and share with the people in this so remote region of the country: The Yekuana and Sanema Indians. Join us to visit this mighty river, appreciate the diversity of its wildlife, surfing its calm waters accompanied by dolphins and macaws. Visit the indigenous community "El Playon", explore into the jungle to discover the majestic Pará Falls as we  enjoy with the hospitality of the natives of the area.

RIVER BOAT TOUR TO “EL PLAYÓN” ON THE LOW CAURA AND TREK TO SALTO PARÁ 5D/4N

Length: 5 days and 4 nights
Difficulty: Medium - Long boat rides + medium hie in the jungle
A tour that takes you half way up the mangnificent jungle of the Caura River, along side Y'kwana and Sanema indigeous communities. 
Day to day program: 
  1. Day 1: Morning - afternoon pick up at your posada. Afterwords we will start our trip to the small village of Maripa and take a detour to Las Trincheras a village along the Caura River. Then we will continue our boat trip to a jungle camp in  the small Island Dufrumi, where we will spend our first night in the jungle. (L/D)

  2. Day 2: After breakfast we will continue our boat trip on the River Caura surrounded by a tropical forest and mystical nature to reach mountains “Las Montanas Cangrejo”, from where we will start a short hike to explore the surrounding. Following the River Caura trip to reach the village “Boca de Nichare” for overnight with Indian tribes. (B/L/D)

  3. Day 3: In “Boca de Nichare” we will meet a Ye’kuana community wich will gladly show us their customs and rituals. We will visit different plantations and see their methods of cultivations. In the afternoon we will travel by boat again to the small village and campsite “El Playon”, this place is just magic, we will spent the rest of the day in the beach to swim, fish and hike to explore the nature around. Overnight in huts in the village. (B/L/D)

  4. Day 4: Day to explore the rain forest, do a short hike to reach the waterfall “Salto Para” and to spend the day in the wild to explore the beautiful nature, swim in the river, fish and enjoy the the nature and surrounding beaches. Afternoon arrival back to El Playon, where will enjoy in local atmosphere of Yekuana Indians and their habits. (B/L/D)

  5. Day 5: Our final day to enjoy the greatness of the Caura River with a 6 hours ride back to the village of Maripa or Trincheras, from where we'll catch our trasnfer back to Ciudad Bolivar. (B/L)

  • River transport by large canoes powered by engines during the 5 days of the tour 
  • Bilingual guide specialized in the area. 
  • 4 overnight in hammocks protected by mosquito nets.

REMARKS & NOTES:

This itinerary may change depending on weather conditions at the time and the influx of visitors. The Caura River is navigable throughout the year, so it can be visited at any time. The best season to spot wildlife though is the dry season (November to April)

 POSSIBLE TOUR COMBINATIONS:

The Caura Rivar tour can be combined with a visit to Canaima & Angel Falls (+2-3 days), The Orinoco Delta (+2-3 days)La Gran Sabana (+3-4 days), or a trek to Mount Roraima (+5-6 days). Depending on your available time and interests we can help you out desinging a combination of tours, so you’ll get the most out of the region!
