Description: 

The Canaima National Park in southeast Venezuela, covers one of the oldest geological regions in the world. The unique flattop mountains known as Tepuys are as old as the separation of the continents itself. It have been cataloged as a resemblance of a lost world, giving us an impression on how the land looked millions of years ago. It has been declared a UNESCO heritage site and with it's 30.000 km2 is the sixth largest national park in the world and yet home, to another world class record: THE ANGEL FALLS, the highest waterfall, known by the Pemón indigenous people as »Kerepapukay Vena« offers to the visitor an impressive sight: 1000 meters of  clear water falling on an spectacular sandstone wall in the middle of a jungle lush vegetation!

 

 

TOUR TO KAVAC / CANAIMA & ANGEL FALLS 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS

Length: 4 days and 3 nights

This itinerary offers the maximum of all the beauties of the Canaima area. Visit the turistic village of Kavak to get into the depths of the valley of Karamata and visit its impressive waterfalls and rock formations. You'll overfly the Auyan Tepui, to then sunbathe and swim in the Canaima lagoon, walking in the water tunnel of El Sapo falls, lie opposite the Angel Falls and Auyan Tepui and if weather permits, you can even take a bath in the pool right in the base of the Falls itself and enjoy the great sights. You'll navigate the Churun and Carrao rivers, always surrounded by majestic Tepuys and a wonderful scenery.

Day to day program: 
  1. Day 1: Early morning transfer to Ciudad Bolivar's airport, you'll board a Cessna plane for 5 people, and go on an amazing flight over part of the Canaima National Park and the Auyan Tepui, having stunning views of the virgin forest, savannas and majestic tepuis. You'l reach Kavac at noon, having time unpack, and exploring the village. After lunch, in the afternoon you'll be taken for a hike to the Kavac Canyon, which will lead to a nice and powerful waterfall. Takes about an hour to finish the hike and it's certainly a marvelous experience. Once you enter the canyon you'll be surrounded by its ancient walls, getting gradually into the water until swimming right before reaching the waterfall. We just need our swimwear, comfortable shoes or trekking sandals and protected our camera from the water. Enjoy the views, bathing in the natural pools and a brief but unique jungle trek. We return to the camp in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in beds. (L/D)

  2. Day 2: After breakfast we'll leave Kavak and will take a 30 min flight to the Canaima Lagoon. Here you'll start exploring the marvelous beaches and the indigenous community of Canaima, home to Pemon tribes. After lunch boat trip across the Canaima Lagoon to see its breathtaking waterfalls: Hacha, La Golondrina and Ucaima. Then, after a short hike, you will have the opportunity to walk behind the curtain of water of the “Sapo” falls and bath there. Overnight at the Canaima Lagoon in rooms with multiple beds. (B/L/D)

  3. Day 3: Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will be taken on a short hike to the Ucaima port where you will start the boat trip on the Carrao River, the trip will take about 4 hours and ends at the Isla Ratón on the base of the Angel Fall on the Churún River. Sights are breathtaking during this trip. After reaching the riverside we hike up through the jungle to the very base of the Angel falls and you can swim in a natural pool at the bottom. After enjoying in the nature you will return to the island of Raton and to the base camp. (overnight) (B/L/D)

  4. Day 4: After breakfast we'll start heading back downriver in the canoe making a stop at the “Pozo de la felicidad” (The happiness pool) for a swim under the waterfall. As you arrive back at the Canaima Village you will have time to get some nice handcrafts souvenirs or relax for a while or explore the Canaima lagoon by yourself, lunch right before taking the plane back to Ciudad Bolívar.     REMARKS & NOTES:

    • For the tour to Kavac / Canaima & Angel Falls, a minimum of 4 participants is required, we'll gladly inform you, upon request, about our availability. 
    • This itinerary may change depending on the weather conditions at the time and the influx of visitors, especially the timing of the activities in the area of Canaima and Angel Falls, which depend strictly on the navigability of the rivers. The best time to visit this region is from May to January. 
    • Although they might seem long in the descriptions, hikes in Kavac are simple, enjoyable and of a great scenic value.

    The Kavac & Canaima tour can be combined with a visit to the Orinoco Delta (+2-3 days)La Gran Sabana (+3-4 days)Mount Roraima (+5-6 days) or the Caura River (+5 days).
